This gallery, founded and run by Ben Pink, is dedicated to local emerging artists; the release will coincide with the opening of an eerie & beautiful show called “works in masks” by artists Misha Capecchi and Jeff Betz. Mask-wearing highly encouraged.
Listen for new music from BIG HOUSE, LITTLE MOUSE on myspace; website will bear new tunes soon!
What’s going on, you wonder?
“Early October” is the highly un-useful phrase for the tentative date of Ariana’s senior recital at Lewis & Clark. The long-awaited debut album yes indeed WILL be available at that show. This show will also feature a very special guest: Ariana’s mother. This mother has been playing flute professionally for 40+ years. You better already be in a seat, waiting.
Ariana sez: “2008 in review? I’ll eschew that buzz word we all knew was ch-ch-chugging around every corner. It hit me like it hit everyone else. I’m pleased and proud to be in partnership with musicians I respect and enjoy, a producer I’m excited about and a partner in crime from the whirring heart of that most buzz-worthy of cities, Chicago. I never really thought about 2009 in manifest, because for the longest time I was a class of 2008 type kid. But here it comes, almost with this weird Y chromosome look to it, The Year of Legitimacy as my friend Courtney has been saying. So it will be.
Also, everyone listen to her. And get me a Robot Pony for Christmas.”
Written and directed by Beth McMillan, this sweet and dorky video is based on an equally sweet and dorky song by Ariana’s old band The Kiwis circa 2003. You’ll notice it’s an aberration from Ariana’s usual Shirley Manson meets some-tattoo-artist-lighting-his-cigarette-with-a-blowtorch musical stylings, but bear with us. Shot over three balmy August days in palmy Southern California, it’s filmed on mostly legal location at Zuma Beach, Pierce College, and some place at which we were reprimanded for being there.
Ariana sez: “I was awake from Sunday morning to Wednesday evening, and my left eye twitched for literally a month afterward, but I didn’t care. I had officially made it, Mom. (I’ll save boundary breaking for my next video. For now, just shut up and enjoy the wholesome heteronormative SoCaliness of it all. I juggle potatoes! Come on!). It was all kinds of fun (and we got all the equipment for free!) P.S. The credits are my favorite part.”
We’re in pre-production for a Sneaky Vegetables music video, directed by Beth McMillan. Approximately 500 sacks of whimsy should be ready by 08/10.
Welcome, sneaks. This is the official website for Ariana Lenarsky, musician/writer. Here you’ll find show and contact information, as well as snarky asides.
Ariana sez: “PDXers: hope you enjoyed flugtag (google ‘redbull flugtag’ if you’re drawing a blank). 80,000 people showed up. I had to climb a tree to get a better glimpse of those many miracles of flight (or lack thereof).”
